Much of her work is done behind-the-scenes and without fanfare, yet Dr. Diane Weems works to improve the health of Chatham County citizens nearly every day. But last Saturday, Weems received well-deserved recognition when she was presented the “Excellence in Health and Wellness” award by the 100 Black Men of Savannah. The award was given during 100 Black Men of Savannah’s 13th Annual Benefit Gala on Saturday, April 4th.
Weems is a member of the Georgia Public Health Association, and serves as Chief Medical Officer of the Coastal Health District and Administrator of the Chatham County Health Department. In addition, she represents the Health Department on several community boards including Step Up Savannah and the Youth Futures Authority.
Weems is also chair of the Chatham County Safety Net Planning Council, which is a collaborative of health care providers working to improve access to health care for the uninsured.
