As the Georgia state budget faces current and potential shortfalls, the Georgia Department of Human Resources is considering whether consolidation of some of the 18 district public health offices could save money without losing public health service capacity.
In order to consider this option, an understanding of the functions of the district offices and the criteria for defining boundaries needs to be examined. The District Health Directors of each of the 18 districts developed this document, which attempts to educate readers about the functions of the districts and gives their opinion on the current boundaries.
