Local Health Departments Cutting Programs

A new report from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) shows that a majority of local health departments cut programs during the last fiscal year and lost thousands of employees to layoffs and attrition. Forty-five percent of all LHDs reported reduced budgets, and an even larger percentage (52 percent) expect a lower budget in the next fiscal year.

NACCHO periodically surveys local health departments to measure the impact of the economic recession. The survey results are being shared with government agencies, members of Congress and the press.
