Georgia House and Senate to Suspend Monday Due to Coronavirus

From our legislative liaison, Scott Maxwell:

The Georgia House and Senate have just announced they will be “in suspension” beginning Monday. Legislators have been told not to come to the Capitol Friday, but to go home. Staff are to work from home.

Today is crossover day and both houses plan to work into the evening to consider all the bills on their respective debate calendars. Bills that pass tonight will be formally read in the other chamber Friday morning and assigned to committee, a process that requires only a presiding officer and one member. Friday will count as Legislative day 29.

The end of the suspension will be determined as the coronavirus crisis abates.
