This week, more than 20 of public health’s most passionate advocates were honored for their commitment to improving the health of all Georgians. The GPHA Awards Luncheon was held Tuesday, March 11 during the Annual Meeting and Conference. The yearly ceremony provides members an opportunity to recognize exceptional colleagues, partners or agencies for outstanding work in various public health fields.
Frieden, Fitzgerald Discuss Public Health Issues During Conference
Two powerhouses of public health took the stage together during GPHA’s Annual Meeting and Conference on Tuesday, March 11 in Atlanta. Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, Commissioner of the GA Dept. of Public Health, sat down with Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control to ask questions submitted by conference attendees. Topics ranged from e-cigarettes, to education, to vaccinations.
"Investment in Public Health" Panel Brings National Experts to the GPHA Conference
Dr. William Foege and Dr. Mark Rosenberg answered a variety of questions about improving public health, with a focus on where and how to best invest the resources of money, time and talent.
Sellers-McCroan Award Presented to Dr. Karl Peace
Dr. Karl Peace was presented with the Sellers-McCroan Award today for his lifelong commitment to improving public health through academia and laboratory advancements. The award was presented during the Sellers-McCroan luncheon, part of the 85th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Georgia Public Health Association in Atlanta on Monday, March 10th.
