State House District 152 Rep. Ed Rynders is resigning from the Georgia House with a year left on his current two-year term. Rynders is a republican from Leesburg, and chairman of the House’s Governmental Affairs Committee and secretary of the Appropriations and Health and Human Services committees.

Dr. Sangmin Shin Appointed to State Board of Public Health
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appointed Dr. Sangmin Shin to the state Board of Public Health in July. Dr. Shin is the Physician Program Director of Research and an Orthopedic Surgeon with Kaiser Permanente in Atlanta.

Rep. John Carson Named GPHA Legislator of the Year
Representative John Carson (R-Marietta) has been named GPHA Legislator of the Year for 2018. Carson worked to ensure passage of the distracted driving law, which took effect last July. The law made it illegal for motorists in Georgia to handle cell phones while driving.
CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield Addresses GPHA Members at Conference
The top U.S. public health official addressed members of the Georgia Public Health Association at the organization’s annual conference Wednesday, May 8 in Atlanta. Robert R. Redfield, M.D., Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, spoke about the importance of partnerships in public health.
