Georgia House Modifies Budget Cuts

The budget is still the big story coming out of the Georgia capitol, according to Scott Maxwell, Legislative Liaison for the Georgia Public Health Association.

From the latest report, February 21, 2020:

“The Georgia House last week modified many of the cuts recommended by Governor Brian Kemp and sent the $27.4 million FY20 amended appropriations bill over to the Senate. Cuts that were partially or completely restored included those for county health departments, food safety inspectors, public defenders, accountability courts, and incentives for medical professionals who agree to practice in rural areas. The House countered those cuts by defunding vacant positions not already identified by Kemp as well as finding other efficiencies according to Appropriations Chair Terry England (R-Auburn).”
